Mad Men Season SpoilersBetty Draper - Season 18
Beauty fades, but obsession with one’s beauty intensifies. Which means Betty’s fixations are now off the charts. She and Henry Francis maintain a chilly peace based on Waspy non-confrontation, her children — damaged, embittered, constantly dealing with feelings of inadequacy — are grown and gone, and since Polly the pooch died, there’s no one to absorb Betty’s putdowns and petulance. Hmmm, what is Glen Bishop up to these days?

Mad Men Season SpoilersBert Cooper - Season 736

Bert’s sage wisdom was always a comfort and beacon to his co-workers, but the guy wasn’t just being nice: He was on his way to cosmic, immortal Nirvana, outlasting all other beings and eventually turning the planet into his own expressive Rothko.

Mad Men Season SpoilersDon Draper - Season 11
Metabolism: It’s a hell of a thing, especially for a guy who now likes his french toast with rum and syrup. Don’s was bound to catch up with him eventually, and now that it has, well, he’s glad those on-trend polyester suits have some stretch. No one else will be glad, but he will. Don already had a “Me decade” during the ’60s, so by the time the rest of America catches up, his once-magic touch with “those who think young” has burned itself out — which is why he still relies on the constant stream of nubile secretaries to keep him up-to-date on the latest fads.

The Far Out World
Last week I was visiting my dad and he’s got this giant drawing I made when I was 17 hanging on the wall by the laundry room. It took me five months to draw it, and it’s amusing to look at now. Like a ‘Where’s Waldo’ of sci-fi weirdness, classic-rock worship, and political and environmental metaphors so blunt they could only come from the mind of suburban teenager. But it’s inspired me to see what I can do with a giant piece of paper again!
PS: The pooch is Kippy.

December: I go to the Museum of Modern Art and fill out one of their “how was your museum experience?” cards in the lobby, drop it in a slot and never give it a second thought.

March: I’m sitting in a plane on the tarmac in Florida and open up the New York Times to see that very same doodle staring back at me in an ad for the museum.

So my first (but definitely not last) piece of art published in the New York Times is something I scribbled in roughly 20 seconds! And I only saw it by chance! Bananas.

“Faul” as in “False Paul”As in, that’s what the other 3 Beatles nicknamed the lookalike who British Military Intelligence forced them to accept as a replacement for the real Paul who died in a car crash in 1966 so as to prevent a nationwide mass suicide of teenage girls. As in, I really need to cut down on my conspiracy theory documentary intake.
