All Hail “SuperJail”

In Ottawa, I saw my first episode of the new Adult Swim show “SuperJail”. It blew my mind. Later that night I met the show’s creator Christy Karacas, whose shorts “Space War” and “Bar Fight” impressed me years ago.
Last night I attended the season premier party at a bar in Tribeca where they showed two more episodes. Once again, my mind was blown. Mark my words; SuperJail will be HUGE. As far as I’m concerned it’s already legendary.
Why? Because it taps into a certain part of the brain that everyone of my generation has. Let’s call it the AWESOMENESS LOBE. Superjail is a violently hilarious assault of 80’s movie flashes and all that was awesome as kid and still is. It’s like 6th grade notebook doodles come to life and animated with utmost skill. Everything you ever found awesome as a kid is in there: prison, robots, aliens, cults, death, ancient gods, heavy metal, sharks, lazers, etc.
And it looks GREAT. Fantastic color design, backgrounds, and characters. How could it not with a crew that includes Aaron Augenblick, the Krause Brothers, Neil Swaab, and Karacas himself? That is already an all-star crew.
So there you have it. Superjail. Sundays at 11:45pm. Watch it and be awestruck.
