It’s summer and the show is just about almost over, so we decided to throw a company picnic for all the Meth Minute characters. It was meant to be a fun team building exercise, but, well… you might say these weirdos are operating on different wavelengths. Features Vic, Coug, The Craigs, Space Cowboy, Mike Tyson, Wang Warriors, and just about every other character who’s ever shown up.

The first appearance of Vic and Cougar. These guys would continue to show up throughout the “Meth Minute 39” and even all the way into “Nite Fite”.
The inspiration for a “Name that Zeppelin Song Contest” came from a real test our friend Kent gave us that was within an unorthodox game of “Dungeons and Dragons”. Wow… It really doesn’t get much nerdier than that.
There was no script when we went to the studio. We just tried to do the contest for real and record the results. And Cougar won. That’s the closest a cartoon has ever come to a live game show.
Oh yeah, and my 2 year-old niece drew all the backgrounds.
Cougar Gets Married
I spent this weekend down in Delaware attending the wedding of Matt Dorfman, known to Meth Minute 39 fans as the voice of recurring anti-hero Cougar. Aside from both being “music nerds”, Matt and Coug are about as opposite as can be. Where Cougar is an abrasive and antagonistic rage-aholic, Matt is a great guy who is loved by all who know him. (He’s also a NYTimes-published graphic designer, check it out!)

The Music Nerds, Ultra and the Lazerhearts, The Craigs, Penalty and Lloyd, and, yes, even 8-bit Mike Tyson are all here getting into the holiday spirit in their own demented ways.
Behind the Scenes Of The Music Nerds
The last Meth Minute 39 Cartoon “The Music Nerds” has turned out to be quite the fan favorite. People have been asking me about how I wrote this one. The truth is I didn’t write anything.
When I brought my friend Matt Dorfman into the sound studio he had no idea what he would be acting in. I told sound-guy Mark Vitelli to be prepared to quiz us beginnings of the entire Led Zeppelin catalog in our headphones. We didn’t even have names for the characters until we started; Vic and Cougar originated in minutes from Victrola record player and John Cougar Mellencamp.
We proceeded to actually have this contest. The trash talk is genuine. The frustrated swearing is real. And the winner was uncertain.
Matt (AKA Cougar) proceeded to trounce me (AKA Vic). It was quite a blow to my music nerd ego. When we had run out of mp3’s we had to think of an ending. What would be the best thing to come out of winning a battle of Zeppelin knowledge? Being carried away by Zeppelin themselves of course.
When the smoke cleared I had 55 minutes of audio to edit down into 1 minute. The result is this:
