Moon Saloon (1994)
This is the first animated cartoon I ever made. It was all drawn on pieces of paper (!) and then photographed one by one with a rigged up VHS camera! Pre-computers, man. I was talking a summer class at Pratt College in Brooklyn. My Led Zeppelin teenage years.
Oh… and, yes, that is Space Cowboy.
Pretty sure I answered both of those questions pretty definitively in this little cinematic masterpiece right here:

METH MINUTE MONDAYS: Company Picnic
It’s summer and the show is just about almost over, so we decided to throw a company picnic for all the Meth Minute characters. It was meant to be a fun team building exercise, but, well… you might say these weirdos are operating on different wavelengths. Features Vic, Coug, The Craigs, Space Cowboy, Mike Tyson, Wang Warriors, and just about every other character who’s ever shown up.
METH MINUTE MONDAYS: Space Cowboy On Earth
Yo… Jake Rhodes AKA Space Cowboy is back to tell you about how his adventure began. Even before he made it into outer space, Rhodes was encountering mystery, danger, and people who were not cool enough to hang out with him.
This was one of the only live-action Meth Minute episodes and the dialogue was almost entirely taken word-for-word from my original 8th grade comic book that Space Cowboy is based on. Someday soon I’m going to start selling reprints it.
METH MINUTE MONDAYS:
Space Cowboy On The Moon
Space Cowboy returns to tell us a little bit more about his romantic exploits on the lunar surface. Ride with him on his Evolutionized Horse and discover secrets of his childhood, sex life, and deep respect for the Apollo 11 astronauts.
METH MINUTE MONDAYS:
Space Cowboy on Mars
This was the first animated appearance of Space Cowboy, a character I created when I was 13 years old. The story line was taken exactly from a comic book I drew at the time. Check out these panels:

Yesterday I visited the animation studio Wachtenheim-Marianetti who animated those hilarious TV Funhouse cartoons from Saturday Night Live. I was sitting there talking to, well, Wachtenheim and Marianetti when the door opens and in walks a guy I haven’t seen in almost 15 years. It was animator H. Stephen Mead, my teacher at a Pratt College summer course back in 1994.
Seeing Stephen again reminded me about the film I made in his class, so I decided to post it up on my blog. It was all done on regular paper with Sharpie markers on a lightbox that we built out of cardboard. Then it was recorded frame-by-frame with a VHS camcorder. Whew, it’s nice to have Flash in the 21st century, but I still think there’s a charm to it. And you gotta love that Led Zeppelin soundtrack.
PS: Yes the main character is definitely the space cowboy, Jake Rhodes, also known as Space Cowboy.
Nite Fite Episode 13: Moon Missions
Tonight, Penalty and Lloyd tackle the pressing issue of moon missions. Luckily, a lunar expert calls in to speak truth… Space Cowboy.
36. Space Cowboy On Earth
Yo… in episode 36 of The Meth Minute, Jake Rhodes AKA Space Cowboy is back one more time to tell you about how his adventure began. Even before he made it into outer space, Rhodes was encountering mystery, danger, and people who were not cool enough to hang out with.
26. Space Cowboy On The Moon
Space Cowboy returns in Episode 26 of The Meth Minute. Here we learn a little bit more about this mysterious hero and his origins. Ride with him on his Evolutionized Horse across the wide open plains of the moon. Discover the secrets of Space Cowboy’s childhood, sex life, and deep respect for the Apollo 11 astronauts.
20. Space Cowboy on Mars
Episode 20 of The Meth Minute introduces the futuristic adventurer Space Cowboy: a cowboy who lives in space…in the future. This epic cartoon has been in mental development since Dan Meth first created the character in 8th grade. In this chapter of the saga, Space Cowboy talks about Martians and his mission to save them all.
